Now is not the time

tinybuddha

The Sun

fighting the chill

reaches down with its

infinite arms

and permeates my flesh

courses through my veins

intoxicating me.

My eyes droop in response

ever so slightly.

I feel

the cold leaving

the sounds receding

all thoughts dwindling to a blackness

until

a rising tide of guilt

jolts me back

to the shore of consciousness

and I straighten up.

Because

now is not the time –

to slacken the grip

to rest

to be pleased with myself

to go complacent.

Now is the time to shake off –

the false weariness

the treacherous happiness.

For the world is

full of people

who think

they have achieved

all they could have.

And someone up above

smiles sadly

for they had only

just begun.

  1. It’s clear you have deep thoughts to express and poetry is a wonderful avenue. In this compelling poem, I have only one suggestion, if you’ll permit me. The content of the poem stands on its own, the thoughts are provocative, the poem has a lovely flow and rhythm.
But the commas don’t really serve any purpose and they do break the flow and rhythm. I think your poem would be greatly improved without them. Try it — see how it looks to you. We have a saying in my poetry class: don’t be afraid to kill your darlings!

Oh, one more — when you have two adverbs or adjectives together, try to lose the less interesting one. So … warm infinite … to me, infinite is the more interesting one.

Tell me how you feel about this kind of response. If you don’t like it, I don’t have to do it!!

      1. Thank you my friend, I am so humbled.

But you know that would be Nandita – A tangle of weeds. When it comes to poetry, her talent is unparalleled. If I write 1 she would be on her 10th, she not only delivers quantity, she can assure you quality also. I am really serious.

  2. For the world is

    all they could have.
    And someone up above

    – These lines though…. really epic… I am like those people most of the time. 🙂
